Behind the facade wise enough, the inside offers (free) to visitors an idea of Egeli hotels in the Plaine Monceau (with Andrew and Jacquemard Camondo, but they are paying). The collection of Asian art Cernuschi greatly enlarged since, justifies it, only by its exceptional quality, visit the elegance of the house just make it even more attractive.

Amusing anecdote, the great Buddha of the grand ballroom was purchased in Japan and Cernuschi out illegally by the latter was cut into 7 pieces by boat in Paris and had destroyed a portion of the facade on the first floor the garden to be able to return home and rebuild on site the monumental statue. Images of many pieces are available on this site.

LOCAL FACTORS OF AGGRAVATED

Here, the highest rainfall is concentrated on a narrow area, a place where the land disposition facilitates concentration of runoff. The inhabitants of Draguignan describe a water supply very powerful and very brutal to 17 h 30. ”This is a very dynamic, very fast,” said Nathalie Dorsliger, antenna Montpellier Bureau of Geological and Mining Research (BRGM). ”And even if it is primarily a phenomenon of runoff on the beds of rivers, there is a saturation phenomenon. When the soil is completely saturated with water, while streams, and the ground retains nothing.

Potentially aggravating circumstance, this type of incident occurred in extraordinary times: the floods called “Cevennes” usually occur in autumn, sometimes in early spring. This factor may have exacerbated the floods in June, the soil is wetter and therefore more quickly saturated.

The nature of the soil also has a strong impact on the behavior of water. ”Given the high content of calcareous soils of the area, said Marc Moulin, a hydrogeologist at the BRGM in Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur, it is possible that part comes early resurgence” of water coming traffic subsurface.

“This type of soil cracks very, very fractured, can have a buffer or an accelerating effect, a competitor of the recession, according to the dynamics of subsurface flow.” It is currently only hypotheses: BRGM experts await more accurate data to know the exact dynamics of the damage caused in the Var.

The South East Australian drowned in heavy rain

The Australian authorities have decreed, Monday, January 4, the state of disaster in flooded areas of New South Wales. In this region of south-east, where it rained continuously since the New Year and the Tropical Cyclone Laurence.

Several rivers have burst their banks, including the Castlereagh River where the flood reached 5.14 meters on Monday mid-day in Coonamble. One thousand two hundred inhabitants of this locality have been evacuated. Forecasters feared that the river reaches its peak height of 5.5 meters, recorded there forty years, breaking its banks and threatening hundreds of homes. The river has however begun to decline gradually.

In the immediate future, the government will join several million dollars to pay the bill for the floods. The state of disaster “will give farmers, local businesses and other organizations an opportunity to access longer term funding to repair and rebuild,” promised Kristina Keneally, who heads the regional government.

These heavy rains, however, could give hope to farmers, who after months of drought, want to boost their production. According to Charles Armstrong, president of the Farmers Association of New South Wales, crops could grow by 10%.

Farther north, in the neighboring state of Queensland, heavy rains also caused flooding, while in Western Australia, severe fires are raging.

The rue Le Gof

At the corner of the rue Le Goff and rue Malebranche in the Fifth District, we need this building to a Parisian architect Gabriel Pasquier. He built this building on Gallo-Roman. Its construction in 1891 was preceded by archaeological excavations by Eugene Toulouze:

“In 1890, Mr. Gabriel Pasquier, well known architect in Paris, after completing the construction of some high buildings along the streets Le Goff, Royer Coward and Gay-Lussac, continued its construction in 1891 at the corner formed by the streets and Le Goff Malebranche, he gave us the opportunity to continue our investigations on this interesting point of our old Paris and to respond to our first article: “A tale of ancient ages at Lutece,” published in Memoirs of the Society of Dunkerque in 1890 .[..]

This point of the old Lutece has in turn been a pottery factory Gallic, a field of graves for ashes, a brick and pottery Gallo-Roman, then, also occupied by dwellings at various times, and finally, by a deposit of filth formed by debris that is flung residents of this neighborhood. ”

G. Pasquier has left many achievements in this style in Paris, particularly in the 7th, 8th and 17th districts. It is both very characteristic with its Gothic Revival style elements, a door finely sculptured, ribbed domed. But there are also these large bay windows with Parisian architects rafolent and then give a little lightness to the whole.
